(i) In what ways does your media production use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media production?
My media film uses the typical conventions of a media production by having the titles, music, and details of the production and by also having a catchy opening sequence, which hooks the audience in to make them want to watch further on to the film. My media production also uses the typical forms and conventions of a real media product with our use of mise-en-scene. I researched into the typical clothing and the locations, which were popular to the typical rollerblading scene; this then helped to choose the correct locations, props and clothing for the rollerbladers to make our media product use the typical forms and conventions of a real media product. My media production develops the typical themes of an opening sequence by fitting in the titles in with the theme of the production, colour schemes were added and the titles were made to move in the same direction as whatever was happening in the scene. The music we chose also developed the production because we spent along time to find music which was stereotypically representative of the audience and the genre of our film. There were come challenges whilst making the opening sequence compared to a real media production; the music had to be fitted to the movement of the actors to make sure it fitted the real conventions of a media production.
(ii) How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our media production represents the teenage to young adult audience who have an interest in sport. Especially skateboarding or skating, even surfing can fit into the themes for our production. My production represents the social groups of teenagers skating, as this usually happens in real life. The representations of our particular social group are positive and show how a normal teenage group of skaters behave, although in one part there is a negative representation when the main skater gets threatened by a thug, this shows that there could be something not so great going on. We used the thug within the production to indicate status between the two characters the thug with the higher status. The car and the clothing were used to show the power play between the two characters by making the thug stay within the car, showing authority and the clothing of the thug to show power by half covering his face with a hat. Within the media product, collective identity between the two types of characters are shown with the clothing and the props; the rollerbladers with their typical scene rollerblading clothing, hats, jeans and baggy t shirts with also their rollerblades. The props for example the car was used to show the collective identity of the thug as well as the use of his clothing. However the rest of or production represents a positive attitude towards our chosen social group.
(iii) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product?
Media institutions such as sponsors for skateboarding and inlining would maybe want to distribute the film because it would help to sell their products and get people interested in their sport, they could also want us to incorporate their products within our film. Local cinemas, which have a high rate of teenage visitors, would also want to buy our film to distribute to their local business firms. Places which also have things to do with play station who for example also sell skateboarding games would want to distribute them because it’s the same genre and they could have a high amount of sales. The Lords of Dog Town’ is a similar genre of film so people who have an interest in that film could have an interest in my production to sell. The production company called ‘Brightspark Productions’ have produced a similar film called ‘Inline Skate - Urban Tricks And Stunts ‘ and it’s made by the directors ‘TEEM’. This is also a rollerblading film, which is within the same genre as my production. People who distribute this film could possibly be interested in distributing my production. Distribution companies for example TriStar Pictures and Columbia Pictures could also be interested in distributing my product, as these are the distribution companies for the film ‘The Lords Of dog Town’.
(iv) Who would be the audience for your media production?
The target audience for my production is teenagers ages 15 or over. This is because my film is certified as a 15 because there will be dramatic injuries and some violence later on in the film. People who have a high interest in inlining especially, or skating on general and extreme sports would also have an interest for my production. There are other films around which have similar genres for example 'Lords of Dog Town' made $13,411,957 gross revenue which shows this genre of film has a large of audience, this shows that my production as it's the same genre would possibly also have a large audience. Another film which has the same genre as my production, is by a company called Brightspark productions and the film is called ‘Inline Skate - Urban Tricks And Stunts’ so people who have an interest in this film and others in the genre of my film would also be the suited audience for my production.
(v) How did you attract/address your audience?
The audience for my production was attracted in many ways from my production. The choice of music was used to make sure that people were attracted to watch it, modern music was used to fit the genre. Images used within the production were sharp and to the point with a good view of what the film was about to capture the audiences attention. The mise en scene for the production fitted the skate theme perfectly due to lots of background research and information on the sport. Editing was carried out to make the meaning of the production effective and grabbing to the audience. Scenes were cut in order to create suspense to the audience. The audience were addressed from the beginning of the film with the tension with the threatening from the thug.
(vi) What have you learnt about the technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have learnt a lot about the technologies form the processes of constructing my product. As I didn’t do media at GCSE I have learnt how to use the editing software to an extent where I have been able to make my product successful. I have also learnt how to use a camera successfully, using different camera angles and shooting different shot types. Throughout this process of constructing my media production I have also learnt how to use the blogger website and how to construct my own blog.
(vii) Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
From the preliminary task to the full product, I have learnt a better understanding on how to use the software which haws enabled me to make a better and more professional looking end product. I have also learnt how to make sure that the finished product looks professional with different skills used for example how to add music, text and effects to the product. I have also managed to progress on my filming techniques by using a range of angles and shot types. I have also improved my research skills into researching into similar products and genres, themes and target audiences.
